Adding ValleyInternet Email to Mac’s Mail application

This step-be-step guide will show you how to add your Valley Internet email to a Mac’s default Mail application. Click on any of the images to enlarge.

1.  Open Mail (click it on the Dock or open it from the Applications folder).

2.  If the “Welcome to Mail” assistant does not appear, choose Add Account from the File menu.

3.  Add Account

Full Name:  your name (or a nickname)

Email Address:  your full email address

Password:  your email password

Note:  Your email account password will be stored in Keychain to allow you to automatically log in to your email account when you open Mail.

4.  Incoming Mail Server

  • Account Type: IMAP.
  • Description:  a useful description, such as “Anne’s Berryessa account” or “Juan’s Napa Valley email.” It can be called whatever you want.
  • Incoming Mail Server:  mail.pnc.net
  • User Name:  your full email address
  • Password:  your email password
  • Note:  if this step fails, check for typos in your email address, password, and mail server fields.

5. Outgoing Mail Server

  • Description:  enter a useful description such as “Napa Valley Outgoing Server.”
  • Outgoing Mail Server:  mail.pnc.net
  • Select “Use Authentication” and enter your User Name and Password.
  • User Name:  your full email address
  • Password:  your email password
  • Note:  if this step fails, check for typos.

 

6.  Verify your settings in the Account Summary. Check “Take account online.” Click “Create” to complete the process.

  • Your account may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes to sync your mail inbox.  This will vary based on your connection speed and how many messages are in your inbox.

7.  Click the Mail menu in the top left and open the Preferences menu.

  • Select the Accounts tab from the top.
  • Select your new email account on the list on the left.
  • Click the Advanced tab

8.  In the Advanced tab:

  • Set the Port to 993
  • Enable Use SSL
  • Set Authentication to Password
  • Close the Preferences window (you will be prompted to save settings, so make sure you save them!)

Your mail account has now been successfully added and configured!
